Triplets Technique

Triplets are three notes played in the span of one beat, usually in the span of a quarter beat. Triplets have a bracket with the number 3. The hardest part of playing a triplet correctly is playing all the triplet notes spaced evenly. Practice triplets in a slow tempo at first, then bring it up to speed slowly. Often triplets are played with a bass note below, which requires the thumb. In the examples above the triplets occur in different strings, which is common in guitar compositions, but other string combinations do occur as well.
